Day two recap of the Mustang-9 World Series

Day two of the eighth annual Mustang-9 International World Series from Walnut, CA was a great day for baseball. By the end of the day the seeding were set.

GAME 1: WALNUT, CA 16, WILMINGTON, NC 5

The first inning looked promising when both teams scored. A Marquez singled to right field followed by a walk. Marquez scored when Isaiah Sanchez singled to center field.

Wilmington, NC started things off strong when G Jones tripled to right field.

Wilmington, NC saw no hope when Walnut, CA score their eight runs in the second inning. Walnut, CA capitalized on an error scoring the first run for the inning. Jake Chin, Ayden Jaramillo, Jayden Corzantes, and Jacob Cabrera each earned themselves an RBI.

Wilmington, NC did not give up hope. They came back and scored three more runs in the fourth inning. Jones and Trey Grey each had a few RBIs in the inning.

Chin was the starting pitcher for Walnut, CA. He allowed one run on two hits, striking out two and walking zero.

Grey was on the mound for Wilmington, NC. He allowed nine runs on six hits and struck out two.

With the result, Walnut, CA moves to 1-1 in the World Series.  Wilmington, NC moves to 0-2 in the World Series.

 GAME 2: ORANGE, CA 20, PLACENTIA, CA 0

 

Orange, CA came in hot and couldn’t be stopped with their win over Placentia, CA 20-0. Orange, CA scored on singles by Seth Windsor, Joe Velazquez, Jacob Barragan, and Luke McCuistion in the first inning.

Placentia, CA had a singleby Anderson Miles in the first inning.

Delcan Godsey was on the mound for Placentia, CA. He surrendered six runs on six hits over two innings, striking out three.

Christian Cicero was on the mound for Orange, CA. He lasted three innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while walking one.

Gavin Oborn, Giano, Miles and Maximiliano Mejia each managed one hit to lead Placentia, CA.

Orange, CA had 12 hits. Velazquez, McCuistion, and Gavin Klovstad all collected multiple hits. Velazquez led the team with four hits in four at bats. The team collectively stole 17 bases as six players stole more than one. Andrew Waibel led the way with three stolen bases.

With these results, Orange, CA Moves to 2-0 in the World Series. Placentia, CA moves to 1-1 in the World Series.

GAME 3: SCOTTSDALE, AZ 10, LAREDO, TX 0

 Scottsdale got on the board early and Laredo couldn’t recover. Scottsdale, AZ scored on singles by Bowen Jantz and Anthony Benitez Jr. While also scoring on a walk to Brady Gravel in the first inning.

Scottsdale, AZ tallied ten hits. Zeke Van Bogeart, Jantz, and Camacho Jr each had multiple hits. Colton Braun led the way with four stolen bases out of the whole team collective 15 stolen bases.

Daniel Camacho Jr was on the mound for Scottsdale, AZ. He pitched for one and two thirds’ innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking zero.

Gerado Escobedo started on the mound for Laredo, TX. He allowed two hits and three runs over two thirds of an inning, striking out one.

With the results, Scottsdale, AZ moves to 1-1 in the World Series. Laredo, TX moves to 0-2 in the World Series.

GAME 4: LAREDO, TX 18, WILIMINGTON 2

Coming off a hard loss earlier in the day for Laredo, TX they didn’t let that affect them as they dominated Wilmington, NC in a win of 18-2.

Nathan Torres started on the mound for Laredo, TX. He surrendered one run on two hits over one and one third innings, striking out four and walking zero.

James Joyce was on the mound for Wilmington, NC. He allowed three hits and seven runs.

Laredo, TX capitalized on a walk and hit by pitch in the first inning when Carlos Nunez III singled to left field scoring Joshua Guzman who walked. Gerardo Escobedo singled in the left field scoring Torres who was hit by a pitch. Jayden Gonzalez singled to left field scoring both Blue Arellano and Luis Salas. Another two walks happened making bases loaded. L Salas came up to the plate again, he hit a triple to center field, scoring Nunez III and Escobedo.

Sawyer Small singled to center field for Wilmington, NC. Followed by a walk. Having runners at first and second now, Laredo, TX made an error letting Small score. Wright Rogers hit an RBI scoring James Joyce.

Laredo, TX scattered seven hits and stole 13 bases as five players stole more than one. Nunez III led the way with two.

With the results, Laredo TX moves to 1-2 in the world series. They will play today July 25th at 5:00 p.m. PST/US facing Walnut, CA. Wilmington, NC moves to 0-3 in the world series. They will play today July 25th at 5:00 p.m. facing Scottsdale, AZ.

GAME 5: WALNUT, CA 10, SCOTTSDALE, AZ 0

Walnut, CA defeated Scottsdale, AZ 10-0 as four pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Walnut, CA got their offense started on an error scoring one run.

Walnut, CA put up four runs in the fourth inning. JJ Vilescas reached first on a dropped third strike. Followed by a walk by J Diep. Having made an error on Adrian Marquez hit to shortstop, Vilescas scored the first run of the inning. Aaron Avila tripled to left field scoring Diep and Marquez.

Deegan Guerrero started on the mound for Walnut, CA. He lasted one and one third innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero.

Brady Gravel was on the mound for Scottsdale, Az. He surrendered five runs on three hits over three innings.

Bowen Jantz went 2 for 2 at the plate for Scottsdale, AZ.

Walnut, CA stole 11 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Ayden Jaramillo led the way with three.

With the results, Walnut, CA moves to 2-1 in the World Series. They will play today July 25th at 5:00 p.m. facing Laredo, TX. Scottsdale moves to 1-2 in the World Series. They will play today July 25th at 5:00 p.m. facing Wilmington, NC.
