First Ever PONY Girls Baseball Western Australia League Championship

It is getting back to normal in some parts of the world. The PONY Girls Baseball Western Australia League hosted their Grand Final on March 28th. This was the first ever PONY Girls Baseball Championship and it did not disappoint!

The Grand Final was played between the Braves and Southern Stars. The Braves ended up winning in the bottom of the last inning by a walk off single. The final score was 10-9.

Western Australia’s all girls league has been going for two years and this season grew to 77 girls aged from 13 to 16 years old split across 7 teams. The teams played a 10 game season culminating in the Grand Final, which was played in front of a big crowd and as a curtain raiser to the men’s club Championship Grand Final.

Earlier in the season, Western Australia ran a development program known as PONY Girls Future for girls aged up to 14 years old, to provide expert coaching and readiness for graduation into the League in future season. This season saw an additional 48 girls participate in this program, taking the total number of participants across both programs to 125.

In the coming years, the league will select an All-Star team to compete in a PONY World Series event hosted in the PONY Asia Pacific Zone. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions the league isn’t able to send a team in 2021.

The programs for 2021-22 will commence in October.
